#25: the star

because i wanted our christmas trees to rise to a spectacular and traditional zenith year after year and because i could find nothing worthy of the top in the early years, i made this star. its base is corregated cardboard, cut from a packing carton, and it's covered with felt and embellished with two different types of trim. it used to be attached to a green felt covered tube but that's long gone. this star was supposed to last just until a suitable tree topper could be located - one year, maybe two, possibly three... and now, thirty-six years later, it's still here nestled in the uppermost branches. for our christmas tree, with its mishmash collection of ornaments, this star is still just perfect.
