#18: ball fringe

this is a small length of ball fringe, a notion that was sold by the yard in fabric departments and used as trim for curtains and lampshades and such. at one time, it was much longer and i'm embarrassed to admit it served as poor garland for our first christmas trees. it must have been a lot cheaper than traditional christmas decorations and i imagine it looked festive with the red and gold glass balls mentioned a few weeks back. eventually, we stopped using it and i saved this small piece as a christmas memento. i hang it every year to remind me of how far we've come as a family and how lucky we are to have all that we do after starting with so very little.
